Ad Tips:

Write a precise ad using 80 to 100 words. Write about benefits of your products and services for ad viewers. Write a concise, interest grabbing, key words filled ad title with action words (four or five words are sufficient :-) that asks the reader to do something now.

Always use photos in your ads. The EXTRA SEARCH Classified Ads System provides a powerful marketing tool by allowing you to include images with an ad you have posted to the system. Most people are visual by nature, so including an image with your ad will offer you better results and responses from your classified ads. If you are using the picture of a product, take the picture using a good digital camera and then convert the image to jpeg format and reduce the dimensions prior to uploading.

Using the simple techniques mentioned above, you should be able to minimize your online free advertising effort and increase responses from your ads. Remember, your ad title and ad copy should stand out with action words and pictures. You should regularly post your ads to keep them fresh and on top the listing page.

Main and subcategories
Ads posted to The EXTRA SEARCH Classified Ads System are organized into major categories that are listed on the main home page of the classified ads system. The number in parentheses listed next to each category indicates the number of ads that the category currently contains. Choose a category by clicking on it. You will then see a list of the subcategories within that category, along with the number of ads that each subcategory contains. Click on one of the subcategories to see all of the ads that have been posted within that subcategory.

Viewing ad details
To view individual ad details, click the title of the ad. You will then see the full ad listing as posted.

Navigation bar
You can use the navigation bar (that appears at the top of each page) above the content to return to the higher level or to the main home page of the classifieds system at any time.

Search by keyword or phrase
To search for ads by keyword or phrase, you can use the keyword search text box located at the top of all pages throughout the system. Enter the keyword or phrase that you want to search for in the input field. You can also specify whether you want to search in a particular category or in all categories. Then click on the "GO" button. The ads (if any) that matched your search criteria will be displayed on the page.

Example 1:
Entering the keyword "Beach" would return all ads that contain the keyword "Beach". However, if you entered the keywords "Beach House", only ads containing the keywords "Beach House" would be returned.

Example 2:
Entering the phrase "The dark side of the moon" would only return a result if the text is entered into the ad exactly that way.

To place a new ad, click on the "Post Real Estate Offers" link. If you click on the "Post Real Estate Offers" link, you will be asked to choose the city and category in which you want to place your ad. Click on the desired category. You will then see the ad posting form.

Ad details
The ad details form will ask you to provide information specific to the category in which your ad is being placed. While this information varies by category, you will always be asked to provide a "Title" for your ad. This is the main topic that is displayed in ad listings when your ad is viewed. Once you have completed the ad title, you will then be taken to a form that allows you to add a "Description" of the ad you are posting. This may include up to 300 words, but it does not include standard HTML code. To add your listing, you must complete all the fields that are designated as "required" (indicated with an *). You will not be able to proceed if these fields are left blank.

Uploading images
To upload an image, first locate the image on your local hard drive. You will see a text box and buttons labeled "Browse". To locate an image, begin by clicking the "Browse" button. You will see a dialog box pop up that will allow you to browse your hard drive and locate the image you wish to upload. Some browsers, most notably Netscape, do not display *.jpg or *.gif files. In this instance you will not see any image files to select from. To display all available image files on your hard drive, you will need to change the option in the "Files of Type" drop-down menu to "All Files (*.*)". This will display all images available on your hard drive for you to upload.

Once you have selected the image, you will see the path to the image in the text area.

Before your image will be accepted as a valid upload, it must fall within the following parameters: your image file size may not exceed our maximum limit of 200 KB. The image height and width are determined in pixels. Neither the image height or width may exceed 400 pixels. If the image is larger, it will be scaled to the maximum size. The only file types that may be uploaded are *.gif and *.jpg (also *.jpeg, *.jpe, *.pjpeg or *.png) files. This is the standard image type for use on the Internet. If you image does not fulfill these criteria, you must modify the image before attempting to upload it to our system. You may modify an image using image editing software. If you do not have an image editing program, we recommend that you download the free version of an image editing software package such as Irfan View (http://www.irfanview.com/). If you attempt to upload an image that does not fulfill our criteria, your image will be rejected by our system. ]

Validating the e-mail address
After registration you will receive a special welcome e-mail from us. You will have to confirm your e-mail address by clicking on a link in this e-mail.

Edit, delete or renew an ad
To edit, delete or renew an existing ad you have posted to the system, you must be logged into the site. Click on the specific link on the welcome e-mail. If you have already logged in, you will see the current ad you have posted. You will then see the form pre-filled with your current ad information, which enables you to make any necessary changes. Once you have made all modifications, click the "Update" button at the bottom of the ad. Your changes will take effect immediately.

Delete an ad
To delete the ad, simply click the "Delete" button. Clicking the "Delete" button will permanently delete the ad from our system.

Adding, deleting or changing images
Click on the desired option and follow the instructions on the screen. When you are finished, click the "Update" button.

Replying to an ad
The EXTRA SEARCH Classified Ads System uses a blind e-mail reply system where you must reply to a specific ad using the contact form on the ad detail page. We will not release a registered user's e-mail address for you to reply to an ad directly if a user does not wish this.

You will see a form you can use to send your message to the original poster of the ad. Your e-mail address is provided to the user who posted the ad, but you will not be able to obtain this person's e-mail address unless they reply to your reply. It is then the responsibility of the individual who posted the ad to reply to your message.

Sending ads to a friend
You can send a particular ad to a friend by clicking on the "Email this Ad" link in the ad in question. You will then see a short form that asks you for your name and e-mail address, your friend's name and e-mail address. Once you have entered this information, click on the "Send Now" button. The ad-link will be sent to your friend via e-mail.
